Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
- The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
- The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
- Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
- The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
- The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

GUIDE TO AUTHORS (2023)
Aims and Scope
The Nigerian Journal of Animal Science (NJAS) is an official publication of the Animal Science Association of Nigeria (ASAN) that is published thrice (January, May and September) a year in one volume. The Journal publishes carefully peer-reviewed original research articles on various farm and laboratory animals covering diverse areas such as production, management, health, physiology, nutrition, feeds and feedstuff, breeding and genetics, reproduction, animal products, biotechnology, socio-economics, extension, farming systems and crop/livestock interactions within the context of sustainable livestock production among others. Review articles should cover new development in a field of livestock production.
Editorial Policy
Submission of a paper will be taken to imply that the material has not been previously published or is being considered for publication elsewhere. Conference papers may however, be upgraded after conforming to journal guidelines. NJAS does not necessarily subscribe to the opinions or conclusions expressed by authors however; copyright of all published material rests with the journal. The journal does not expressly guarantee nor warrant the standard of any product mentioned neither does it imply approval of any product to the exclusion of others which may also be suitable. Trade and brand names are used only for information purposes.
Format of the Manuscript
Manuscripts should be processed with Times New Roman of font size 12, double-spaced and line numbered using A4 size paper. Pages of manuscripts should be serially numbered using Arabic numerals. The sequence of organization of manuscripts should generally include:
Title of the paper: This should be concise, specific and describe the content of the paper.
Author(s) Name(s) and Address (es): Author (s) name (s) and initials should be provided (e.g. Adeoye, T.A., Omotosho, M.O and Dairo, F.A.S) with their affiliations. The corresponding author should be identified with e-mail and probably phone number.
Target audience: List 3-5 target audiences to benefit from the report.
Abstract: This should be brief and informative, giving an objective, principal findings and conclusions in not more than 250 words. Abstract of a review should highlight the new ideas the article is reporting.
Key words: These should consist of 4 -6 words with each word separated by semicolon.
Description of Problem: This heading should be used instead of introduction and should start the main body of the paper after the abstract. It should include a brief statement of the problems and clear description of the justification, aims and objectives of the investigation.
Materials and Method: This should be clearly stated in a way to permit reproducibility by other researchers. Experimental design and statistical tools used should be clearly described. The measurement instruments and tools used for independent and dependent variables should be stated. However, known methods should only be referenced while new techniques and /or modifications to known methods should be described in detail.
Results and Discussion: This could be separated or combined. It should contain the observed results and their interpretations. Results should be adequately described using tables, figures, chart, graphs e.t.c. Tables should be numbered in Arabic numerals. Where descriptive subheadings are used, they should be italicized and should precede all major paragraphs. Discussion of results must specifically show how the findings of the work address the problem(s) and objectives stated at the onset of study.
Conclusion and Applications: This should contain the inferences drawn from the results and its application by the target audience. It should be numerical i.e. 1, 2, 3 etc and listed in an outline form.
Acknowledgements: Author(s) may wish to state their appreciation to individuals or agencies or Institutions that contributed in one way or the other to the report.
References: References cited in the text should be indicated by numbers in brackets, i.e., (1) or (2) or (3) e. t. c., without stating the name(s) of the author(s). All references cited should be listed in the reference section in the order in which they were cited in the text followed by the surnames, initials, year of publication, title, medium of publication, journal volume and the first and last page in that order.

- Olusola, O.O., Abunwune, R.N and Adesola, A.T (2017). Quality evaluation of kilishi, an intermediate moisture meat product sold in Zaria metropolis, Nigeria. Nigerian Journal of Animal Science, 19 (2): 271-279.

Tables and Figures: All accompanying tables, figures or photographs should be numbered and cited sequentially in the text however; each table should be on a separate page. When preparing tables, the title should be lower case letters (except the first letter). Avoid horizontal and vertical lines within the tables. Insert Table option should be used to prepare tables. The illustrations (as minimal as possible) must be very sharp and clearly defined. Legends should not be on the photographic illustrations but should be typed on a separate page accompanying the figures. Graphs should be prepared in clear reproducible camera-ready forms of printing.
Manuscript Submissions: Manuscripts and accompanying materials should be submitted electronically to njas2011@gmail.com.
Peer Review and Publication Process: The blind review (s) option will be used on all manuscripts submitted for publication before a decision is taken. However, manuscripts that do not conform to the guidelines will be promptly returned. Authors will be notified within one to two months on the status of their paper either accepted, revision requests or rejection. All accepted manuscripts are further subjected to editing and abridgment. Corresponding authors are responsible for action on peer reviewers’ comments, concerns and staff editing. Corresponding authors will receive galley proofs of edited manuscripts for review and comment before publication.
Article Processing Charges: Manuscripts submitted, accepted and published attracts page charges. Extra cost may be incurred if colour pages are included in manuscripts. However, it must be stated that papers are not published on the basis of ability to pay.
